Singapore hosted this year’s annual senior management conference for the Steel Storage Group at the beginning of June. Thirty members from the worldwide Group, including Managing Director Jonathon Perrins, Director Robert Gregg from Carnegie Wylie & Co. and Director Drew Douglas from Douglas Wenck, assembled to review and discuss the year gone by as well as plan ahead for the future. The Group welcomed many new faces to the summit, a sign of the global growth the company is experiencing.
As part of the conference, a number of site visits took place including a tour around the newly refurbished Steel Storage Asia office and factory in Jurong. General Manager for Steel Storage Asia, Jes Johansen, has shown a hidden talent for interior design, some might say it exceeds his talent for golf! The Asian office is moving from strength to strength in developing the Asian self storage industry, not only in Singapore but in neighbouring regions Korea and Hong Kong to name a few. The manufacturing facility in Jurong was heaving with activity under the management of Raymond Quek Chuan Hin, Steel Storage Asia’s Factory Manager.
The Group also visited two of the four Extra Space Self Storage facilities throughout Singapore which have been designed and constructed by Steel Storage. The first facility visited is located on the fifth floor of IMM, a large shopping centre also in Jurong. This impressive and successful facility shows the versatility of the self storage industry in adapting to local demand. The next facility on Boon Keng Road is located close to the Central Business District and boasts extensive wine storage and climate controlled areas.
The conference came to a close with a cruise around the beautiful boat laden waters of Singapore harbour providing views incredible enough to ensure the humidity was momentarily forgotten!
